I’ve had a reference addition/ECS GTX 580 for a few months now. I’ve had a good chance to really stress everything this card can do. Honestly, old cards still do their job quite well. The shroud was held from the back with 16 star shaped screws to hold it in place. and keeping the heat in place to allow it to only exhaust at the back of the card. I didn’t think much of the reference cooler at first, but I realized the planning and thought behind it once opening the card up. It’s extremely efficient, even under the extreme overclocking I had in place.

Under the shroud. you have a single fan and a massive block-style heat sink on the GPU, screwed down with the traditional 4 bolts on the back. I had no luck on reducing the temps any further with 4 different types of Thermal Paste. But it still stays under 70 degrees Celsius which is more than enough to satisfy me in terms of thermal control.

Overall, solid card, even after it’s time. Especially with a vintage ECS graphic on the top.

World of Warcraft ,”Warlords of Draenor” expansion details revealed!

World of Warcraft is still  the world’s largest MMORPG, and the game is over 10 years old! Their latest expansion is called “Warlords of Draenor” . This expansion is expected to be released sometime in 2014.

World of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor

This expansion will upgrade the graphics of the game by adding greater detail to the character models and to the actual game world. Blizzard has chosen to keep the game engine the same, using a “if its not broke , dont fix it approach”. While adding greater detail to the characters and models  and the game world, this expansion will make the game look better but because of its outdated engine, it will still be behind current gaming standards. Below is an image of the new detail put into the Orc model for Warlords of Draenor.

Beyond the cosmetic changes are some pretty significant changes to the game play elements. One of the developers is quoted as saying that “we’re also looking to get right back to the roots of dungeon content this expansion, and ensuring that they’re not only a significant section of leveling and story experience, but players also play their part in helping you gear up . This is a bit of a change to the current style, where there is essentially no motivation to participate in 5 person dungeons.
They have also announced that the more difficult “heroic” versions of dungeons will undoubtedly be somewhat more difficult in order that they are actually relevant for end game content. No doubt the loot will much better in these areas too.
However, the biggest changes come at the end game level of raiding. The existing system that Wow employs includes a raid finder system that forms 25 man raids that are the lowest tier of gear, followed by the flexible system, which scales according to how many players the group has and then 10 and 25 man raids that have both normal and heroic difficulties.
With this new expansion, this is all changed. The low end raid finder will be the same as it currently is, but there will no longer be set 10 and 25 man normal and heroic raids. These raids will now be changed to normal and heroic difficulties, but will combine it with the flexible system so that the raids scale depending on if the group has 10 to 25 people. Additionally, the game will undoubtedly be adding a higher difficulty level known as Mythic that will require a set number at 20 people to participate in. Mythic level difficulty is expected to be a significant step up in difficulty and is targeted toward the highest end of player bases which have been a bit alienated in recent expansion packs.
The loot system will also be revamped, with the new raids dropping gear in accordance with the amount of people who are participating. The current raiding system will also be changed a little, with raids no longer being broken up in to sections in the case of raid finder and flexible, but they will now just employ the entire raid, so the system will be find a group, zone in, and also have all the bosses available.
Writers and developers have stated that Warlords of Draenor will have a stronger emphasis on lore and storytelling, that seems to be missing from this game.
There is no known release date, but I would look for the beta to be announced soon.

Seems as though all the aftermarket GPU makers are starting to make chassis’s. Interesting.
