Apple bans all bitcoin apps from the app store!

Things are not looking too great for iPhone users who use the Bitcoin crypto-currency. Today Apple removed the final Bitcoin wallet app from the App Store. The App was named Blockchain and while it absolutely was not the largest, it was removed without any warning.

I bet this made most IOS users who were  using Blockchain as their primary Bitcoin wallet very unhappy. One Reddir user round-peg was even offering to give a new Nexus 5 to the first 5 people that smashed their Apple iPhone in a rebellious rage over the Blockchain app being banned from the App Store. When Blockchain was asked to comment, they said that Apple banned their app because they felt that Bitcoin threatened their own payment system. Just another reason to switch to Android!

Russia first to ban bitcoin and other virtual currencies!

“The monitoring of the use of virtual currencies shows an increasing interest in them, including for the purpose of money laundering, profit obtained through illegal means. Russia’s official currency is the ruble. The introduction of other types of currencies and the issue of money surrogates are banned,” – Prosecutor General Office of Russia

It sure will be interesting to  watch and see how Russia enforces this law, I mean cryptocurrencies are anyonymous and done in private. Banks cannot stand bitcoin and other virtual currencies, because they are not part of the action.

Bitcoin took a little plunge on Friday, coming in at around $750 a Bitcoin,  due to the Mt.Gox suspending payouts to its users. Mt.Gox should resume issuing payouts today, and claimed the payment delays the fact that their servers got slammed by too many transaction requests.

Bitcoin plunges as major exchange halts withdrawals

Bitcoin prices fell sharply early Friday after Mt.Gox, the major exchange for the virtual money, said it had no choice but to halt withdrawals for all its customers.

Mt.Gox said an increase in withdrawal requests caused major technical issues for its servers.

“To understand the issue thoroughly, the system needs to be in a static state,” Mt.Gox said in a statement. “We apologize for the sudden short notice.”

Mt.Gox did not halt trading in the currency, just withdrawls.

The company said it would fix the issue as soon as possible and give an update on the situation on Monday.

Is bitcoin just a fad? Is it really taking off?
